I'm taking car to garage next week but have some concerns. Mitsubishi mirage 1995 car. I tapped on the map sensor and car started up. I tapped on it again and car turned off. I think i need a map sensor but not sure. And where can I get a good one from? Nappa or O'reily?

A Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP) Sensor monitors the changes in the intake manifold or vacuum pressure during various engine operating loads and sends a corresponding signal to the automobile’s computer.A faulty MAP sensor should have triggered your service engine light. If it did, then a code reader / scanner would be able to retreive the code and verify that it is in fact the MAP sensor.
Some symptoms of a faulty MAP sensor are a decrease in power, poor fuel economy, vehicle hesitation, engine “pinging”, surging and high emissions.

NAPA and O'Reilly are equally as good in their products, and it definitely sounds like you MAP Sensor is shot, or the connection to it is bad (check the wires before replacing the sensor).More Questions & Answers ...
