Question:
This car has only 84,000 miles on it but we've been having rough acceleration and noise while shifting gears. It's automatic and sometimes sounds like it skips gears. The Kelley Blue Book states the trade-in value is a little over $3,000. We like the car but don't know if its worth putting that much money into it.

As a rule, if repair cost is 70% of vehicle value, buy another vehicle, sell existing vehicle for as much as buyer will offer. It is getting harder, and harder to justify repairs these days. I own a transmission/auto repair shop, and I hate to admit it, but repairs quite often cost more than vehicle is worth, and before they realize it, owners have so much invested in their vehicle repairs that they cannot sell them, and are force to keep 'patching' them together and try to drive the value out of them.Macco advertises a $200 paint job, but........?
well you could sell the car and use that $2500-3000 and buy a car that is $6000-6500right now the car is nearly totalled

i own a repair shop, and if that's all the miles you have on it i think id fix it,it will last a lot longer ,you,ll probably get 200 k out of it anyway,so id repair it,i believe it can be done a lot cheaper than that and you might want to consider a good new model used one from a salvage yard they often get cars in that are wrecked a little ,and you could get a good used one for around 450 bucks, that's a lot different than 2500 ,it might be something to think about ,i have bought from junk yards before and never had any problems from any of the ones i have used before, good luck ,i hope this help,s.More Questions & Answers ...
