Question:
There is a brief honking noise coming from the back of my 2000 Ford Mustang when I step on the gas from a stop. I only hear the noise when I have stopped completely and step on the gas. It's louder and longer when the wheel is turned. What can this be? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are you sure the sound is coming from the rear? Sounds more like your power steering pump. (Fords are notorious for noisey P/S pumps)...if it is coming from the rear.it could be the differential (rear end).have someone check the oil in the rear end...it might just be low, or there may be a leak, and fixing it now (if not already too late) will avert a major expense of having to replace the rear when it goes completely. To make sure it's not the P/S pump- with the motor running, and the car stopped and your foot on the brake- turn the steering wheel to one direction and hold it there (while keeping the car still)- if your hear the noise, it's your power steering pump- if not...get that rear checked.
