Car runs fine for 1hr then suddenly overdrive is disengaged?

Question:
I drive the car for about 40 minutes to and hour and it runs fine then suddenly over -drive disengages and the revs go up to 3000rpm @ 60mpg normally at 60mph the rpms hold @ 2100 RPM'S . I checked all the connections to the transmission made sure fluid level was correct. vehicle . Vehicle was involved in a fenderbender and after repairs were maid the next day (fender was replaced and door repaired) while driving home this occured . Can the accident be the cause or what can be the cause of the problem VEHICLE IS A 1999 Ford Taurus 3.0 ohv 99,000 miles Thanks
