depends on the car, they all work different. with the keys out of the ignition, turn the headlights on then back off, get out of the car and wait 2 minutes. see if that helps.can I fit a 460 big block ford into a 1970 zc ford fairlane with a 4C?

If they don't go off when you try to turn them off manually then you have an electrical problem. I suggest the switch is at fault first off. Best call an auto electrician.

Some cars leave the lights on for a couple of minutes to let you see as you get out. Is this what it is doing? If so, check your owner's manual. You may be able to adjust the amount of time they stay on.Some of the newer models have a headlight delay that stays on for a minute longer(I guess as a convenience for the driver to get into the house or whatever) You got that which if it don't turn off is malfunctioning or the light switch is faulty. Replacement is only option.

Its a very unusual fault.
Obviously there is a switch failure.
Possibly relay failure(although switching off lights and keys out still normally isolates)
The switch needs to be removed ,impossible to advise on this without knowing specific car.
When the switch is removed it will determine or eliminate this as problem.
Short term answer to flattening of battery,(sometimes totally discharged battery will need replacing),is remove associated fuse or disconnect battery.Fuse positions are usually shown on inside of fusebox cover.

My daughter's Honda did the same thing on occasion. Quite by accident, I discovered disconnecting and reconnecting the battery solved the problem..........maybe just resets a relay or logic. Worth a tryGood luck

Sounds like a relay is sticking, if you have any car knowledge or have a knowledgable friend. Try checking the relays in the fuse box, one might be hot.look in the instruction book or even on the fuse box lid.
And remove the headlight relay, if the headlights go off problem solved and you need a new relay.
Otherwise you might need to consult an Auto Electrician.
