No. Simply stated it will not effect the engine performance at all. The only function of a cat is the filtering of emissions. I have run some tests on a couple of vehicles with and without cats and performance exhausts. The only conclusion is that it was a waste of time, most vehicles don't want a performance exhaust on them, and the cat did nothing to performance. Its up to you if you want it on or off, but if you have state emissions tests than i suggest keeping it to save you money.

A Cat that is working correctly will have nearly no effect on exhaust flow. They are a straight through design and flow well. If the car was equipped with one and you remove it you will be in violation of the law. Most shops will no longer work on the car either. Now all that aside, it wont really change anything and shops wont put exhaust on if it is newer than 1981 (older in some states)
