I have a 87 ford f150 4by4 stick,5.0 302.When it starts running from cold it runs fine, but after fifteen to twenty minutes,it will backfire through throttle body and there will be extreme heat coming out of the exhaust,it will then ocilate and start to breakdown till it shuts off. Then you have to wait till it cools down to start it again. But it only does this when you start to accelerate on the gas ?

If you have fuel injection, and the part you are referring to is really a throttle body then it does NOT have a heat riser in the manifold. Backfiring through the throttle body is an indication of a timing problem. it could be distributor timing or bad wires. To check for bad wires, spray them with a mix of water and rubbing alcohol. Just water will do if you have no alcohol or a spray bottle. The really hot exhaust could be an indication of a blocked catalytic converter or, once again, a timing issue. The occillating or rolling idle is most likely the IAC (idle air control) motor is need of a cleaning. The iac is mounted on top of the throttle body. if you remove the intake duct and look inside the throttle body with the throttle closed you will see a hole about the size of your little finger. That is the "in" side of the iac. either spray it with carb cleaner while running or remove the iac and spray it out separately. Ive never had to replace the iac gasket when doing this. Definately clean the PCV tube and replace the PCV valve. If it is blocked all the blowby will go through the breather tube, thus, blocking up your iac again. 1 clean iac. 2 clean pcv tube and replace valve. 3 check spark plug wires or replace if they have been on for more than 50 k miles ( plugs may not hurt either). Its hard to tell what may be wrong without knowing the history and maintenance history of the truck.Electric supercharger. Blow off valves?
Clogged catalytic converter.Check engine light wont turn off?
your Catalytic Converter is plugged when it does this look at your converter if it is glowing red it's plugged up.Check your Catalytic convertor, for an easy quick test remove your oxygen sensor(if applicable) and drive around the block, if you have a considerable more power, replace your Cat.
How much would 4 roter's cost me for a Ford Mustang?
Here's the big question to you.how old does a car have to be before it needs an M.O.T.?
When was the last time you tuned this up? There are some decent answers listed here. I'm cheap with cars- I have 264k miles on my Cavalier- but I'm not cheap with maintenance. The tune-ups & maintenance get done on time with the correct parts. But if you want to try fixing this on the cheap. Then try this.
update on My car keeps overheating (94 Dodge spirit)?
First: Replace the pvc valve- this thing can become a gremlin many times powerful than its cost or size.
2nd try: Distributor cap, if you notice wires are bad
3rd: wires
after that, it may get expensive
