Question:
By the way, I have a 2001 ford focus ZX3 with an Z-TEC engine, dual head cam. I went to autozone to get a diagnostic done because I got a check engine light. They told me it was my o2 sensor gone bad. So I purchased one there, a Bosch brand, which by the way I paid $50 for. Is this a good idea to do because I was going to have someone put it on for me for $45 so it will be cheaper to do. I need some professional feedback on what I should do now. Am I being scammed for parts or is this code really detecting a problem. PLEASE HELP..
Answers:
Chances are that the code you got was a "P0156", and it indeed does indicate an oxygen sensor voltage is out of normal parameters.
It could indeed be failing, but it can also be a failure in the circuit (i.e. wiring, connections, etc.). To replace the sensor without diagnostics is tantamount to getting advise from the doctor over the phone based you "Doctor, I don't feel good". Much more information is needed.
Pay the fee, and get some real diagnostics. It may indeed need a sensor, but if you replace it, and don't repair the problem, you have wasted $100.00.
