Question:
How long should torision bars last? I got an 04 ranger and the front end is sitting a little low. The front is several inches lower than the rear. I tried adjusting them but the front dropped down after a couple of days.

be careful how you adjust them, this also effects the camber (angle) of the wheel if not adjusted properly resulting in poor tire wear.how do i properly break-in a newly overhauled car?
Depends on mileage and how hard (rough) the driving you do (off-roading, etc). Could be a combination of suspension items. Take it to a good front end guy and have it checked out.Dead Battery or Just plain too cold out?
sounds more like you need struts in the front. torsion bars usually last a long time. to check the struts push down hard on the front end and then release. if the truck bounces then you need them. if you hear it clunk or it doesnt come back up you need them soon! we've had demolition derby cars from the 60's-70's with good torsion bars.so they do last a long time. struts can wear out quicker especially if you do alot of offroading or driving on bumpy roads or rough terrain.I don't think there is a (quote) number on how long they should last.
But like any product that is under tension and flexed continuously the metal is going to fatigue eventually, as with leaf or coil springs.
Torsion bars lead a hard life, and many times just break. ( AWD Astro vans have this problem )
Flashing Coil light on dashboard of works VW Caddy - Why?
when adjusting torsion bars you have to allow front suspension to settle out. measure the height. adjust and repeat. to settle out front suspension with out proper equipment just drive back and fourth on flat surface. both sides are independent but will effect each other so this can take several attempt to correct. as far a torsion bar life they very rarely go bad without extreme force. best way to adjust them is take it to a good alignment shop and have the height adjusted and front end aligned. any other way is very difficult and inaccurate.More Questions & Answers ...
