We were trying to get off a really stubborn residue off our car, and the only thing that worked was using the rough side of a kitchen sponge. the marks came off, however it left some whitish scratches where the sponge contacted the car. how do i get these scratches off?

At a car parts store, or a place like the Wal-mart car department, go to the polishes and purchase a polish called compound.That will rub the whitish scratches off.
Take your car to a professional detailer and they can buff it out.

there is a product made for paint to conceal scratches rather well actually.go to a auto-parts store or ask around...its quite good they say!Need some help about getting paint job?
If they're not too deep, a good polish/wax (Meguire's is good) will usually work. Other wise you need to use polishing compound or for deeper scratches, rubbing compound. Be careful if you use rubbing compound, you can rub the paint off.If you can't feel the scratches with the tip of your fingernail try a product call "scratch out". It's in a yellow bottle. It works. If you can feel them you are going to have to compound it. Make sure the compound is made for use on clear coat if your car has a two stage paint job. Most new cars do.
