Question:
This car has been in storage 25 years finally got it running but the clutch starts to slip a little in 3rd but really bad in 4th. Do I need to replace the clutch and Pressure Plate? The car Has a Hydraulic Clutch cylinder. There is also about 1 1/2 inches of play in the peddle so I am not out of clutch. Thanks

How to replace car thermostat?
The higher gear requires more torque to be transmitted through the clutch, so it slips easier in 4th.1989 chevy silverado 1500 series 350 motor 2wd?
If it has been in storage for 25 years, things could just be sticking, such as the throw out bearing, and not letting full pressure against the pressure plate. What is the hydraulic hose made of? Rubber? Could be a collapsed hose keeping pressure in the system. Open the bleed screw and step on the peddle, you will know if there is resistance in the hose. You could have sticking slave or master cylinders also. Probably easiest to rebuild them first.

What is the firing order/plug location/distributor rotation for a 94 F150 5.0?
You have a 289 in a VW? That's got to be cool. It's slipping in third and fourth only due to the ratio's of the tranny. It's easier to move the car in lower gears. I think the only thing to do at this point is to first make sure you are getting full return travel on you're clutch actuator at the bell housing and then serious think about pulling the trans to check the PP, clutch and flywheel. You may have some oil in there. Both previous answers are good but you can't judge how much clutch you have by the pedal with a hydraulic clutch.
