I need to replace a Front axle boot on a 90 Toyota 4runner. I priced getting it repaired at the dealer and they are wanting over 400 dollars. Does the replacement quick boots hold up? Im talking about the ones that are split and you clamp the ends as well as glue the boot together. I have seen them before but not sure how reliable they are.

quick boots are fine if you dont live in the frozen tundra of the north as for wanting over $400 to replace it you will be better off replaceint the whole axle most of the time you can get a CV shaft anywere from $70 to $120 and you will have the same amount of labor involved to replace it most of the time the average person can replace it themselves and if the boot has been leaking for awhile more than likely the joint isnt to far behind anywaysHow can I get hard water spots (drops) removed from my car?
YEAP. Ya KAN DOI have used these boots before. They hold up fairly well but are a real pain to install (despite what the advertisments say). Problem is if you have a split boot then the CV joint is probably near death itself as all of the grease has spun out. Last time I had a split boot (of course I also heard the click-clicking from a dry CV when I turned) I purchased a used axle assy from a salvage yard for $90.00 and installed it myself in less than an hour.
