On a 99 Isuzu Rodeo why does the RPM gage go up to 3,000 then back down and acts like its going to die then it goes back up and it repeats this process for awhile? Whats wrong with it? Also why does the fuel gage says its full then while driving down the road it goes to empty then back to full again? Can anybody help me please. I really appreciate your response. Thank you. I have a 99 isuzu rodeo with the 3.2l v6. What you describe with the rpm could be a few things. If it is happening when you are idling it is very likely the intake manifold gasket. This is a very common problem. Off hand I don't remember the code it gave me, but one of the symptoms was a very eratic idle that went from almost dying to raised rpms.I have replaced mine 2 times already. Another easy symptom to recognize is a loud sucking sound under the hood. What happens when that gasket fails is that extra air is getting into the fuel intake system. So your vehicle has to keep adjusting the amount of gas it gives to keep the car running.As for your fuel gauge, have you ever had to replace the fuel sending unit? This is another common problem with the Isuzus. I know 3 other people with rodeos and we all have had to replace ours by 80k miles. It starts by being stuck or fluctuating and then it just stops working. Isuzu might try to sell you the whole fuel pump assembly and everything, but you only need the fuel sending unit. I think I paid less than $100 from Isuzu for mine last year for the part. The labor is a whole other ball game.
