I want to do a good tune up, but I dont know everything for a diesel, the truck is running on an engine out of a salvage yard, but i want to ensure i am getting peak performance from my engine, what are all the things i can do for a diesel to ensure good fuel economy?
Answers:
Generally it is to change the oil, air and fuel filters. I would have the injector pump, glow plugs, and fuel system professionally checked and pressure tested, and if possible have the engine computer scanned for codes if one is installed.
In 1985 Chevy 6.2 diesels in the military did have diagnostic computers, I am not sure if the civilian models did.
93 blown head gasket do i have to turn engine and replace head bolts?
Diesels are easy to feed. Change the oil & filter, air filter, and the fuel filter(s). If it has solid lifters, adjust the valves. Run some Techron injector cleaner through it, or better yet, run a couple of cans of Diesel Purge, if you can find it. Check the coolant. You can check the timing, but it probably won't need adjustment for 100K miles or more.More Questions & Answers ...
