Signs of your disturbutor going out?

i need to know what the signs of a disturbutor going out is will the check engine light come on i know rough idle hard starting in cold but what else is there

When a distributor is going out you can easily test it by checking to see if all plugs are firing witht he same voltage. Usually a really bad "misfire" and bad fuel economy is an obvious sign. But to make sure it's the actual distributor make sure your wires,plugs,cap, and rotor are good if you still experience bad performance test your distributor by disconnecting one wire individually to see if it is causing a problem. If you pull one out and nothing changes that's the one thats misfiring now to see if its the distributor just simply get it near the engine to see if it sparks. If you have to get it really close for it to spark your distributor is bad, but if it sparks a bright one its good. BTW most cars don't have a distributor code to trigger the check engine. Nowadays its usually a Cylinder Misfire Code

most of my experiences have been that the distributor isn't bad ,it's usually the rotar button or the distributor cap itself.check those first.if it is one of those it'll cost alot less to fix. you should also check your plugs & wires if it's hard to start & idles rough.
