how many miles can i get on my car for every 1/32 of an inch of tire tread?
you probably dont need new tires, most likely you have a flat spot and that is causing the vibration, it it is bad you may want to consider new tires just to eliminate the risk of other parts being damaged due to the vibration, but they are most likely not unsafe to useStick a penny in your tread with the bottom out; if you can see the top of President Lincoln's head, the tread is too thin and tire needs replacing.
Probably not the tires but you can tell by looking at how they are worn. If they are worn smooth in the center or on the edges they probably need replacing.
I am looking to remove the drivers side lift motor in my 02 ford explorer?
The problem is most likely the brakes or the rotors. You can tell by taking the wheel and tire off and looking at the brakes to see how much pad is left. If they are thin you should replace them. To check the rotors take you car to a mechanic and let him take the wheels off along with the brakes and check for grooves or uneven wear on the rotors. This is a little more expensive, especially if they need to be turned or replaced.
I'm a pretty Trans, aren't I??
I would definitely replace your tires. Also, from the sounds of it, the way you are experiencing a vibration, it is possible that you may also need new brakes and/or rotars!!how to replace a multi groove belt on a 2002 monte carlo?
it sounds like to me that its your roters out of round causing the vibration if it was the tires thecar would vibrate all the time but if it happens when you apply the brakes at 65 mph my moneys on having the rotors turnedcan i put a 5.7liter350 from a caprice n2 a 85 camaro?
Could be a couple of things like, Uneven brake shoes or uneven wear of pads, or a belt in one or more of the tires is broken.1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Headlight Removal?
Have the tires spin balanced with the tires and wheels on the car.I can't figure this out please help.....?
If that does not work, check for suspension or brake problems.
If they are radial tires, they can break inside and cause a vibration. What you are referring too though sounds like what they call flat spotting in racing, when you slammed on the brakes the tires became locked in one spot(they stopped rotating) and more rubber was taken off in one spot than the others, therefore it doesn't have a nice circle shape any more causing the vibration. As for do they need to be replaced, depends on the tread depth, which can be determined how much is left with a tread depth gauge at your local auto store and if the vibration only occurs over 65mph you shouldn't need to replace them unless you live an area where the speed limit is greater than 65mph.

Try rotating the front to the rear. Sounds like you have a flat spot. If that doesn't help by a new set of tires. Or just go faster or slower so you don't feel the vibration at 65mph.Honda transmission oil change?
Without driving your car of course I,m just guessing but it certainly sounds like you have a warped front brake rotors. A good shop can check this for you and correct it by either turning the rotors on a brake lathe to eliminate the unevenness that causes this or replace the rotors altogether.More Questions & Answers ...
