My car's clear coating has worn off the roof: will a good wax job replace it ?

I don't have a garage and the car is exposed to all the extremes in weather. No way can I afford to have the car repaired professionally. Not only does it really making the car look bad, but I'm afraid of rust, etc. Help!

Bought a Chevy didn't you... No waxing will not fix your problem, but it may hold off the rust for a short time. The whole roof needs to be sanded out, primed and repainted.

Honda Accord 2004 Transmission?

No, clear coat is just that, clear paint. You can keep it protected somewhat by using one of those polymire coatings instead of wax but the only way to repair paint is to have it resprayed. Some guys that know little tricks can maybe save the color coat if it's not too bad then shoot new clear over it. That would be alot cheaper but of course wont be as good as a proper paint job.

Is 10w-30 better for my car or 10w-40?

The clear coat and wax is two different things. The clear coat is the coat under the wax that helps pretect the cars last layer of paint, wax goes on the top layer of the car. You can take your car to some paint shops and most dealerships and they can spray a clear coat on for you. Wax will not help espically since your clear coat is gone. With the clear coat gone any and all rain and moisture can cause rust on the car. If you go and get a clear coat sprayed on it will be a less expensive cost than if you have to remove rust or buy a new car.

Our "97" E420 is not starting, cranks but does not catch on. Also when I open the doors the fog, side and low

No, its the lacquer gone(the clear paint) it won't start to rust as long as the actual paint scrached or removed. you can spray some water and sandpaper very briefly with a very fine sandpaper just to level and buy a can of lacquer or clear paint and spray carefuly. I suggest you do that in a close and clean place.

Need help diagnosing a car problem?

Clear Coating is a sealant for the paint job, if this has worn away, the only way to replace it is to have it done. This could be done relatively cheap since they could tape off that panel. Bring it in to a body shop and explain the situation to them and they can give you an estimate free of charge.
