I need help finding a truck part.. 89 ford?

Question:
We have an 89 ford ranger. 6 cylinder r/cab
We need to replace the spyder gears. (differential rebuild kit) 373 ratio 28 spline count. Every place we find one, the spline count for that model is 31. This really has us stumped. Does anyone out there know why this is? Or where I can find a 28 spline count set? Any info will be helpful. We can't find anyone that knows anything about it. Our only other option is to replace the whole rearend, and you know what a pain that can be. thanks in advance for your help.

I'd change the whole rear end with one from a junk yard. However, make sure to get the same exact gear ratio.
