I am assuming that the ignition coil is worn. Also, this may help: if the key is in and the door open it does not make the signature Volkswagen noise. But if you jam the key in really hard it does and as soon as you let go it dies out.Right car tail lights not working, but brake lights work.?
Most likely your ignition switch is worn out. These are normally dealer only items. Follow the procedures in the service manual, Haynes or Chilton's for replacement if you choose to do it yourself.
