Question:
I have a 2003 VW Pasat with 63,000 miles and my dealer says I need a new timing belt. I always thought a timing belt should last aprox. 100K. If it's bad I know it needs replacement, I was just very surprised.

Check out the VW link below and take it to your dealer and have hime justify why he is saying 60k -- sound like he is over maintaining your car- if you compare the dealers "recommended" "uhmmm " list of 60 k services it is full of stuff that is not required and is just so much extra that you cna do if you just hink you have to -- usually it is just extra stuff that makes little if any difference in the long run.
I alwasy say wheni take mine in "only do what Vw requires according to the maintainance shcdule" it keeps your warrenty valid and doesnot cost you several extra hundred.
