i have a 91 chevy with a 305 and i recently put a timing chain and gears in and i set the timing and after i did that i started to get a knock and it did it under a load so i messed with it and got it to show a code and it was code 43 so i put an ignition moduel on and the knock went away and then tonight i was comin home and hammered on it and it started makin the tickin noise and then it just stopped and then the ses light came back on and its the same code so i'm lost anyone got an idea??

make sure you got ALL the vacuum lines on and that they are all in the right place ; check all of the electrical connectors around the distributor and front of the engine where you were working and re-check the timing . dose the truck have a knock sensor? check it ! Retard your timing a couple of degrees, or start using high octane fuel.mechanical advance is broken, or vac advance, check it

There could be any number of things causing the misfire:
- bad knock sensor or loose wires
- bad crankshaft position sensor or wires
- bad centrifugal advance in the distributor (not sure if a '91 305 has one)
- timing gears and chain are misaligned
- and half a dozen other factors.

I recommend you borrow or purchase a good service manual and go thru the ignition system troubleshooting tree, to diagnose what is working and what is not. Or else take the vehicle to a knowledgeable & competent mechanic and pay them for their diagnosis, while you do the parts replacement.
