Question:
I have a 2002 Dodge Stratus that I maintain reguarly. A few weeks ago it began to make noises. First when I am in reverse and turn the car to the right the tires (or what sounds like something near the tires) make a knocking sound. Second when I drive sometimes the car shifts hard, making the car jerk, third when I hit the brakes hard they make a rumble sound. So my question is...Are all of these problems related to one malfunction? Or do I have multiple problems with my car?
Answers:
That can be blamed for the first noise you hear. It can also be the cause of the rumble sound, but it can also be worn brake pads.
I would think the jerking is a separate one, but I would fix the other two first and reevaluate.
how can i protect my car from the freezing weather conditions?
Check You CV joints!!my oil is leaking from my car (94 Honda prelude)?
those are multiple problems...you may need to get a brake job done (the rumbling noise) and the knocking sound is likely the axle. the hard shifting is definitely related to the tranny. it may be the torque converter, but transmission can be tricky. its best to have someone who knows transmissions to check that out.Is it possible to change the kilometres on a digital odemeter?
You definitely need new CV shafts. They can cause the knocking sound, hard shifting if the splines are broken (Could be something wrong w/the tranny, though) and the rumbling.96 Grand Am 4 cyl. car problems?
