You could have a bad relay. I'm not sure on the Firebird, but many cars have a starter relay in the fuse-box. It will be box or cylinder shaped. A Haynes manual will point it out for you. Get one before proceeding further.

Have a friend turn the ignition key. Verify he is pushing in the clutch. Do you hear a click? If so, power is getting to the relay. Then there is a short between the relay and the starter. Find it and fix it.

If you hear no click, then either the relay is bad, or the clutch pedal-starter-interrupt switch (CPSIS) is shorted or disconnected. Check the CPSIS first by getting down in the driver's foot area and looking up into the dash. The CPSIS is actuated by the arm of the pedal. Check the switch for continuity using a multi-meter or equivalent. Continuity should change when the pedal is depressed. If it does not, replace the switch. If the switch is good, replace the relay mentioned before.
