You have the hold the key turned for about 10 seconds and must repeat this process about 3 times before it will finally turn over. Now why your holding the key turned, its cranking and clunking very roughly, but will not completely fire up. And when it does finally catch the car is almost jerking for about 5 seconds until it comes to a normal idle.

Tried putting in a fuel injection cleaner / additive. It seemed to help, but still the car is rough starting. Once it starts it runs completely fine, its just the first start after it's been sitting for 8 hours or so in cold weather.

I have a 94 Honda Accord....my odometer only works for 100 miles.....anyone know how to fix this?
I would recommend testing the fuel system to see if you might have an injector leaking down or maybe the fuel pressure regulator gone bad and leaking fuel. This will cause an over-rich condition any time the vehicle sits for long periods. The chugging may be the result of the car trying to start while being flooded.
You may also have a bad fuel pump check valve and the fuel may leak back down to the tank while sitting. To verify this problem try this the next time you start your car after sitting for awhile :
(1) Turn key to "on" or "run" position for 5 seconds (do not crank).
(2) Turn key off for 5 to 8 seconds.
Repeat #1 and #2 for two more times.
If the car starts fine, you have determined that the fuel pump check ball or valve is bad.
By doing this test, you are basically letting the fuel system "prime" itself by cycling the pump relay on three times. Once the furl rail is primed and full of fuel the engine will start right up.
Honda Passport 1998. I need help figuring out the 4X4 drive. Could anyone please help?
Go to your mechanic and get him to put in a heating block then you can plug it in overnight. They're pretty cheap and completely worth it. Volkswagens are known not to enjoy the cold!Does anyone know the website for this?
TRY CHANGING THE FUEL FILTER AND A NEW BATTERY WITH HIGHER COLD CRANKING AMPS. ALSO MAKE SURE THAT THE ANTIFREEZE IS MIXED AT A GOOD RATIO.try changing the gas filter.sounds like it might be dirty.once it starts the dirt gets washed around and lets the gas flow.
