Ok back in november my husband wrecked my car. My radiator got busted, hood damaged, grill gone and drivers side headlamp completely gone. Well ok, my husband put a radiator patch kit on it, put fluid in it, and drove it around the block to circulate the fluid. Well the patch kit didnt work. Well I havent drove it since the beginning of dec. I have heard that if fluid got drained out and it gets freezing, that my engine block could crack. I also heard that if I dont start it and wait for it to warm up, fix my car that it would be ok. Well 2 weeks it has been freezing, im pretty sure that there is some fluid in it. This week its gonna be in the forties, I finally have enough money to fix everything on my car. I was wondering should I go ahead a put the radiator in and start my car, so I can take it to a mechanic or should I wait until it gets even warmer? Does anyone know anything about this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Im sorry i have no car smarts. Thank yo so much

i own a repair shop and you can add the anti freeze to it to get it to the mechanic ,i think it should be for a short distance as long as it wont leak all this back out ,an you,ll have to make sure it don't get hot on you ,if it does it may ruin whats left of the engine,good luck i hope this help,s.how can you tell a sensor is going out on a 96 ford contour?
first of all your husband is jerk. second if you know someone that can change the radiator so you can take it to the mechanic it will real good...dont worry about the block, your block should be ok once the fluids stars running all around the engine. just put the new radiator in put the fluid 1/2 water and 1/2 cooler. good luck...my fly wheels xpv is broken, thier are two propelers one of them is as powerful whats wrong?
the only way the block could be damaged would be if the car was left with only pure water in the block.it doesn't sound as if it was.you should be fine.if you have more q's post them and I'll try to help.i hit a curb sliding in the rain and both my tires are bowed in can i get tht fixed for cheap?
If your looking to get the car fixed, call around for a good mechanic with connections to a body shop, then call the tow truck and have it taken to him. If your worried about it freezing and breaking something, if the patch didn't hold the water probably ran out of it anyway, so that wouldn't be a concern.Has anyone ever seen Transfer case shift motors freezing up on a 2000 Ford F-150?
Make sure you get some idea of the costs. If it is badly wrecked it may be cheaper in the long run to total it out and get something else with the money you'd spend fixing it.

First, look at the color of the fluid in the radiator. If it's green, you've got some antifreeze in it and it should've been ok. If it's dirty brown or clear, then it may have froze up on you. If you have green, I would put the radiator back in and fill it with more antifreeze. start it and let it run, but watch the temperature. If it doesn't get hot you could probably drive it to the shop. And you could always call the shop your having do the repairs and see if they'll pick the car up.
