Sometimes having Trouble starting ford escort 1.8 diesel L reg 1993?

sometimes fires up a dream. changed soliniod, battery, fuel pump, fuel tank, Plugs, cleaned leads, contacts. When it fails battery does not last long car is used for work help needed thank you.

This could be a couple of things, if the car is turning over fine but wont start then i would say your glow plugs are probably on their way out, try turning your ignition on so the glow plug light comes on wait for it to go out and then repeat this about three times before trying to start, this wont flatten your battery like turning it over will. If the car isnt turning over very well in the first place and your battery keeps dying then its gonna be your alternator, take your car to any tyre/exhaust place and they will put a voltage reader accross the terminals for you for free, it should read around the 14 volt mark when the engine is running, any less and you will know the altenator has packed up.

Sounds like you have a glow plug shorting to earth , check leads to the glow plugs if not check glow plugs for a melted out one somtimes they blow and melt together and short to earth so when you turn on in the morning one shorts direct and flattens the battery
