Honda dealer in NJ charging $500 for timing belt, water pump and the other 3 driver belts. They higly recommend I change this now. When I start my car, my car makes this squeaking type noise from the bottom or definately the drivers side. However once is driving and at normal temperature the squaking noise stops completely. But when put on Park, the noise is still there but 80% less than when the car just got started cold in the morning. The Honda people also say, perhaps the belts need to be adjusted costing $70 dollars. So what you guys think? What should I do?

Timing belts don't squeal. But if you are on the original timing belt, you are on borrowed time.. If it breaks and bends your valves you are looking at $2500 valve and head damage.
I would agree with having the belts replaced. The drive belts can cause the squeaking that you mention. The timing belt is also recomended to be replaced every 75,000 miles so it doesn't have oppertunity to break on you(that can get ugly).
Yes replace the belts! $500 sounds like a fair price for a Honda dealer.

i would shop around 500. sounds like a lot ..got mine replaced for 175. have no problems.. the valves do not reach the top of the pistons so they will not get bent ..Check your water pump, the noise may be coming from it. Check the coolant level, if it's low the water pump may be bad.

Yes, it is time.Replace timing belt, accessory belts, water pump, distributor cap and rotor, wires and spark plugs, and you should be good for the next 95K (except distributor cap, rotor, and spark plugs - replace those every 35-45K).
Make sure the dealer's quote includes at leas the water pump - it is timing-belt driven, and 90% of labor is included in timing belt replacement but if it locks up on you, you will likely loose the engine.

Do all services you wrote of. The timing belt, If it goes out, will cause the valves to stop going up and down. When the piston comes up, the piston will strike the valve, thereby bending the valve, and possibly ruining the piston top. The other services such as water pump are necessary to because the water pump is used as an idler for the timing belt. The belt goes over the cam sprocket and then over the water pump on it's way down past a snubber shoe, then back around the crankshaft sprocket, then back up to the cam sprocket making a complete circle.
It's hard to pin down your squeeking noise for sure, but it could be old, loose belts. I wouldn't waste money on adjusting the belts, especially at $70.00 I would go ahead and have the timing belt changed now, as it is time. Having the timing belt changed, water pump replaced, and belts replaced as well for $500.00 doesn't seem that high. This price will also include the replacement gaskets, as well as the antifreeze they will need to replace. Of course, I live in California, and our prices may be quite higher.
If I were you, I would check the cost with a couple of other places that are not dealerships, but are definitely A.S.E. certified mechanics. Make sure that they guarantee not only their parts, but their work.

i would just tighten it first all u have to do is loosen the two bolts on the alternater and take a pry bar and pry the alternater back a lil bit to tighten the belt then tighten the two bolts while ur holding the alternaterIT COULD BE EITHER THE PUMP OR BELTS

one buy the belt yourself and replace it its not hard the squeaking noise is your alternater or your idler pulleyyour timing belt and water pump are recommended at 105,000. the squealing is your belts that run your steering pump alternator or a/c. there should be no extra charge to replace the belts since they have to take them off to do the t-belt. check all pulleys and tensioners for timing belt. now i have been there and done that. they'll have fun getting the harmonic balancer bolt off! haha!

Statr with cheap maintenance such as spark plugs, tune up, sensors, etc...albert 191,it appears your car has more than one thing wrong with it.No way am I saying anything bad about the Honda dealer in NJ,but at times dealers do have a reputation of overdoing it.Seek another opinion(estimate)from another source,and compare prices.Be sure they look at the car and they have mechanical expirience.
