Need advice on 94 camaro valvetrain noise?

Question:
went to the mechanic and they said that there is a valvetrain noise (sounds like a loud ticking noise) under the hood. they said it will cost 100 dollars just to open it up and see what it is, not to fix it. does anyone know what it could be or how much it might cost to fix it?

Answers:

Any idea what's wrong with my car?

Sounds like valve train noise, a lifter is sticking. It may be possible to free up lifter by doing a engine oil flush and then using quality oil. B&G have the best additives for this it is called an M.O.A. if that doesn't work you will likely need to replace the lifters.

I Got Beat on EBAY What would you do? Bought a truck and 12 miles away the engine is tapping bad.?

There are a couple things...one, your lifters are probably dished, which loosens the preload on them...if not too bad, they might be readjusted carefully.

Need to know how much maintenance would could cost on a 2002 rav4 toyota such as tire cost, oil changes etc.

Other possibility is that a rocker arm stud has pulled out some, and may have to be replaced, not so good...

Electric Motor Question?

On the low end...lifters need replacing,,,,, on the high end you have the beginnings of a rod knock. Price is dependent on which engine is in the car.

Classic Soft Trim or Katzkin? Which one is best?

the advice about worn lifters in the most on target, but a pro will not repalce the lifters without replacing the cam as well.
