Question:
EGR Insufficient flow and EGR Excessive flow-The vehicle is a 2000 Toyota Camry CE 2.2L. After a diagnostic test, I
was told my car had a code of P401 insufficient EGR flow. I replaced
the VSV and EGR modulator, which cost me $350.00. I did not replace the
EGR valve, the mechanic said it was still good. After rebooting the
computer and after 30-40 miles the check engine light is back on and my
car is worse than before. It has rough idling and loss or power. I took
it back to the mechanic and told him about the problem I was having.
He scanned the computer and check the parts he had replaced to make sure
they were not defective. The scan came back with a P402 code, EGR
Excessive flow. He said he did not know what the problem was and suggested
I take it to the Toyota dealership. I did and they were clueless as he
was. I also cleaned the throttle bottle with some throttle bottle
cleaner, but it did not help. I am at stand still at this point.
How to reset code on 94 dodge caravan?
Any idea what's causing the problem? Can you help me?
Answers:
How much should it cost to replace all 4 brake pads and rotors in my Rodeo?
Toyota has a very complex EGR control system and even some experts have problems. for example in the last three issues of Motor magazine there was a series of articles devoted to just this issue. also sometimes the code set is only a symptom and not the real problem. EGR flow should not occur until the engine is up to temp. So is your car temp. running normal? You might check with Toyota technical service to see if there is a TSB (technical service bulletin on this)More Questions & Answers ...
