i bought a 96 dodge dakota the oil was filthy and i changed it a week latter im losing oil prssure and im thinking of changeing the oil again my oil light came on and its full of oil please give me your advice.

If you have a guage you can better monitor what is going on in there. If not, you have to trust the oil light.It is vaguely possible the engine had a lot of deposits and the new oil filter has become clogged. Try changing oil but this time use a half quart of transmission fluid. It is more highly detergent than engine oil alone and a half quart is not enough to thin the oil to a dangerous level. It works good at cleaning out built up crud. If you are not comfortable with that spend a bit more and buy something that is made to clean engines. If your oil pressure was good after the oil change but slowly went down it is most likely a clogged filter. But, If the light stays on after the next oil change, don't run it or you could damage the engine. Suggestion, fill the new oil filter with fresh oil before you install it. That cuts the time almost in half that the engine has to run before getting oil pressure back up.

If the oil is that bad i would suggest that you change it weekly until you get the oil back into the condition it should be in. It sounds like it was neglected for quite some time. So before bad damage is done to your pickup take it in the *** and baby your truck for a month and change your oil every week and see if you can get all the old crap out of there. You might be able to get it all out of there sooner but that would probably take all day. Oh yeah put your nose up to the oil dipstick and see if it has a milky substance on it. If your water doesn't have oil in it you have a bad oil pump, or the pick up for the oil pump is clogged from all of the dirty oil. I would check the pickup for clogs first. That can happen from neglect and it sounds like it was neglected. Now that I think about it, it sounds like a clogged up pickup. Take off the oil pan and look.

i'd check your exhaust and coolant first of all then check under the carriage for leaks etc. you said the oil was dirty looking? if it's got white going throuhg it or is ppure white gunge then that could be your water jackets leaking, or oil / coolant contamination elsewhere like the head .how much will it cost to replace an engine?
checking the exhaust is to look and see if oil is being burned up in the combustion chamber. you shouldn't have to refill very often if everything is tickety boo.

Make sure your have oil circulating through you motor before driving.A oil warning light (guages are always best) indicates a lack of oil pressure in the system If oil is full then most likley it is a faulty oil pressure sending unit or possibly the sensor(sending unit) electrical connection has come unpluged. Check you service manual if have you have one for location and check connection. The light will also come on if wire is loose or off. Most oil pressure sending units are a screw in type mounted on the side of the motor(check you manual, Haynes/chilton/ect.) and can be removed and cleaned.
If the oil was dirty when you bought truck it is possible the sensor might just be plugged or dirty too.
You can run a product called " RESILONE " through your motor. It is made by penzoil. I am not a big penzoil fan but this one actually works good. Be carful not to overfill your oil. You may need to drain out a little if needed to add resilone.
Resilone is availiable at most auto parts stores in either pint(concentrated) or quart size. Run for several day to a week and the change oil and filter.

FYI ... For future use alway check fluids prior to purchasing anything with a engine in it. Most people have their car serviced just before they sell it to make it look good. Always smell the oil, if it smells burnt the vehicle was not maintained properly and seller may be trying to hide something.
