Question:
I have no intentions of actually hotwiring a vehicle! I want to know what would it look like (it is for a tattoo that I want to get). I've seen it in movies but I don't know how accurate it would be if I base it on that. Is it two exposed wires touching? What color wires? Do they really use a screwdriver? Thanks!

how much would an inexpensive tune-up be for a ford explorer 1996?
In newer cars, 1990+ the ignition switch must be by-passed to allow power to the ignition circuit. This only requires 1 wire but it has to go from power to the correct ignition wire. There not the same color. Once this connection is made, all ignition lights on the dash will light up. Using a shunt from your connection, it must touch the starter wire( usually a small wire) long enough to turn the engine and then immediately disconnected once the engine is running. Now you have to break the steering lock and disconnect the shift lever lock to drive the car. There are better ways of doing this but as a mechanic, this is what I see from idiots.any mechanics got some ideas??
When they use the screwdriver its because they broke the lock portion off the ignition and just need to turn it... Turns out it's not always as easy to do as they make it seem.how to apply new alternator belt on a 89 Ford Probe?
Newer cars are much more difficult to hotwire, but with an old car, you look for two separate wires of the same color, and splice them with a really thick wire.
Me and my friends used to do it to screw around with construction equipment... which in retrospect was absolutely stupid of us... but we were kids.. and with those it is much easier because all the wires are exposed.
ihave 2000 buick century. had to replace the battery and now it won't start.?
There are two circuits to it. An "on" circuit, and a "start" circuit. You have to put the "on" circuit with the other side of the circuit, usually the same color. This turns the car "on" but does not start it. Then there is a third wire which is usually very heavy gauge (large size) wire which engages the starter motor. You touch it to the other two wires where they are bare. Then the motor will crank, and when the motor fires, you pull that third wire away from the other two. This of course does not help much with the steering wheel lock pin, so good luck trying to steer the car.More Questions & Answers ...
