Clicking noise while accelerating?

Question:
When i accelerate i hear a weird clicking noise. After a while it stops, i have asked people at work what could cause it and they say that i might be out of transmission fluid or need oil. Waht do you think?

Might also be the speedometer cable if the car is old enough to have one. You ought to check the fluids regularly though!
