Hello ! First excuse my english, I'm french anyway. I have a 1993 Ford escort diesel 1,8 L. Which doesn't start anymore.
The starter and the battery are OK (they have been tested).
We have tried to push the car, so it could start but that didn't work, so it seems to me that it's an electrical problem. Would you have any idea about the problem ?

i own a repair shop and i do this all the time,you need to check the ignition module that mounts in the distributor on this one,they had a habit of going out,and that would make them not start at all ,that's the first thing id check though,from what you said about it id say that will fix it,good luck i hope this helps.,,PS also check and see if its got gas ,and is getting it to the engine.

Nevermind what dodgeman said about an ignition module. Since you have a diesel, obviously you will never find this part on your car.

The only things that will cause this, no/ not enough fuel, or no/not enough power to the plugs, and wireing/modual failures. I dont' work on Diesel engines very often, and then, its usually just an oil change. I would check the voltage at the glowplugs, and then If that works out, I would check the fuel pressure. If that is good, then you have a problem in the wiring somewhere, that would need to be narrowed down. If you don't know much about engines, I would have a repair shop deal with this, as you can cause more bad then good. If you do know about the engien basics and would like to try to tackle this yourself then you have the 3 points to start at. Spark, fuel, wires.

Your first check should be for voltage at the glow plugs. Does the glow plug light come on when you switch on the ignition? If not then you need to find the main system fuse and check that it hasn't blown, followed by the glow plug relay.

If all checks out okay there then you need to make sure you have not got a load of air in the fuel lines which has forced the fuel to leak back into the tank.

To do this you need to undo the bleed screw ontop of the fuel filter and if there is a primer which there usually is on a Ford, you should pump the primer until fuel which is free of air bubbles comes out, then you should hold the primer down whilst you tighten the bleed screw back up again.

You should then pump the primer a few more times until a good resistance is felt and then turn on the ignition but not start the engine. Once you have done this you can try to start the engine.

If there was air present in the fuel and the car still doesn't start after bleeding and priming you will need to bleed the injectors.

Undo an injector about half a turn and have someone crank the engine over. Once there is fuel squirting out past the injector which is free of air then tighten the injector back up and repeat for the next injector until you have bled all 4 injectors (or the engine starts).

Make sure the battery is fully charged and in good condition,(most important) check for voltage on the heater plug rail, with the ignition is switched on, also that the orange coil light (for heater plugs) in the console display illuminates and goes out, it is quite normal to change heater plugs every two years or so, (dependant on mileage) you should also be able to hear a click from the heater plug control box as is switches out of circuit, (if it's working) this vehicle will resist all attempts to start unless these heater plugs are working, as a last resort use a jumper lead from the battery + to the heater rail and hold it on for about 30 seconds, whilst attempting to start after 20 seconds, this eliminates the control box (yes it will spark as they draw a heavy current) if this fails perform a compression test and a cylinder leakage test after checking the valve clearances .03 - 0.4 inlet 0.45 - 0.55 exhaust. I'm assuming you haven't got a broken timing belt, in which case you'll need some new valves! Iv'e had several of these engines where the key has sheared letting the bottom belt pulley rotate and bending valves.
