Why does my car idle high after coming to a stop?

Question:
I drive a 1984 Toyota Celica, 22RE, EFI, 5 spd. Awesome car by the way, runs like a champ with over 220,000 miles on it.
Well when I come to a stop the car idles high like 1,500 - 2,000 rpm. I rev the engine and then it comes down to normal idle. What's the problem?
Thanks Everyone! Happy Easter!

You've got something sticking somewhere. Look at the linkage for a return spring and make sure it's not stretched out. Spray the linkage with something like WD-40 to make sure it moves freely, and try a little spray cleaner in the intake.

O2 sensor? EGR clogged? These cars don't have a choke on them I don't believe, otherwise I would have guessed that.

If it has a carburetor then you may need to adjust the fast idle cam or repair the choke. It's designed to idle the engine up when cold.

Can a 1976 Vauxhall Cavalier 1600 run on unleaded petrol? If not what can i do?

I would first clean the throttle plate and bore with household spray cleaner and an old tooth brush. Carbon deposits build up on the perimeter of the plate and around the bore so that the plate gets stuck in the bore etc. Also, you may have an Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid which the computer controls to set the idle speed which should be about 750 RPMs. You may be able to remove it from the intake manifold and clean it also.

Nothing fancy, but your throttle cable may be sticking a bit, or not seated in the pedal arm correctly. Might be frayed inside the sheathing...

Dodge durango rack and pinion was replaced and the power steering is still hard to turn! Is that normal?

You have either a cracked or an open vacuum line or sensor leading to the throttlebody. There is also a chance that the mass airflow sensor is bad. With 220K not a bad run so far!.
