2000 Ford Mustang Clutch/Transmission problem?

Question:
The clutch went out on our Mustang about 4 months ago and we had a friend do the replacement for us. My g/f drives it so I hadn't payed all that much attention to this until now. It is really hard to get the car in 1st, 2nd and reverse. If the car is stopped it will shift into all gears without problem after it is initially put in 1st. I know this suggests that it is a syncro problem but, she noticed this only immediately after the clutch was replaced which suggests to me that it's not the syncros but something he did.
What can cause this? Can installing the clutch incorrectly cause the syncros to go bad?

When I was young my favorite car was a 59 Bonneville, have not seen one in years. Rust buckets?

This car has a cable activated clutch, not one with a master cylinder and slave cylinder. Sounds like the automatic aduster might need repaired or there may be internal transmission damage.

How reliable is a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier LS?

Sounds to me like the clutch spring adjustment is incorrect or the clutch springs are not installed correctly. The syncro's can get messed up but it would take quite a while for that to happen from driving on a worn clutch. The clutch is just not engaging properly so the gear splines are not meshing right making it hard to get in and out of gears.
Have it checked by a professional.Things like this left can cause more damage.
