Question:
I'm thinking of purchasing a 1997 S10 5 spd with a 2.2. It's at a very good price but the owner says it needs a clutch and driveshaft bearing. If I replace the clutch, would it be a good idea to only change the disk to not purchase the whole clutch kit? Or do the other parts wear down too? Such as the throwout bearing and pressure plate? Can I be safe with the old ones? It only has 110k on it. And what about the driveshaft bearing? What happens when that wears out? I just want it to run. heh...

Exaust Tips - Do I have to do any welding with an exaust tip that has a clamp-on inlet?
just buy a whole clutch kit from the parts store, it has the friction disc, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing all in one kit and even an alignment tool. you only want to do the job once, and all of those parts should be replaced together. when you have it out you should also check the rear main seal on the engine and make sure thats not leaking. if it is, thats the time to do it.in addition to a previous answer, also check the pilot bearing in the rear of the crankshaft, if its good put a little grease in it.
What might be the problem with my 2003 alero?
Replace it all if you dont any slack left will cause you problems in the future. Its cheaper to buy a complete clutch kit than to have you tranny pulled out again to replace something that would have only costed you a few dollars more in the first place. My dad is a ase certified transmission tech believe me its not cheap to pull and install a tranny and iits a lot of work to do it your self. and 110k miles is pretty high for a chevy. All good advice but don't forget to have your flywheel resurfaced. Failing to do so can cause clutch "chatter" if it is bad enough.
