Question:
Hello, I am about to take the auto box out of my A4 1.9 TDi saloon 1996 N reg, & fit a replacement from the breakers (or anywhere else i can get one). Ive heared that not all auto boxes are the same & i need to match it to the engine, which i am told is AEE? Does anybody have any knowledge in this area they are willing to share?
Ooh, its loss of forward drive, reverse is fine. From my limited skills & reading i think its the rings around the planetry gear...?

As you have stated that you have limited car repair knowledge then an auto box is a bit ambitious to cut your teeth on.
You are right about one thing you will need to get the correct unit for your car and not just any box from a similar car will do
Why does my 2000 ford Ranger leak antifreeze?
If you are going to go ahead the don't forget to fit the torque converter as well. Any swarf or clutch fragments from your failed box will more that likely have contaminated the converter and you are not able to clean this out. It will then transfer back into you "new" box and possibly make that fail as well

If you manage to get the old one out without killing yourself, there should be a model tag on it to help find the correct one.More Questions & Answers ...
