All wheel drive or two wheel drive? If it is all wheel drive the clutch pack in the rear diff is probably worn out. If it is two wheel drive remove the cover and inspect the diff gears and bearings. If there is no metal debris just change the fluid. If there is metal debris present the diff will need to be torn down and at least the bearings replaced.

nothing. unless you know a mechanic. this noise you speak of was a built in accessory for the 1995 model. as you have testified yourself it was not popular so it was discontinued immediately. no legit dealership will remove it because it is to much of a hassle. but if you know a mechanic you can ask them to do you a favor.

The side and spider gear sets in the rear end are probably chipped and or worn out. I recommend rebuilding the rear end completely because of the metal fillings.
