Engine loose power?

Question:
I have a 98 Windstar and after running for a while the engine losses power, the engine rpm`s are 1500 to 2000 no more. If I stop and turn the key off for a minute and start it again then the engine runs just fine. I have already changed the fuel filter and no help. Please advise.

Common problems on a '98 Windstar 3.8L V6:
-leaking upper to lower intake gaskets, which may cause vacuum leaks, and the symptom you describe.
-rotted and collasped PCV hose from the upper intake manifold to the PCV valve, which causes vacuum leaks, and possibly the symptom you describe.
-IMRC control valve faliures, which cause a lack of power symptom similar to what you describe.
-IMRC valve rod grommet broken, causing the IMRC valve rod to disconnect from the secondary runners and in turn, the symptom you describe.
Some of the above answers are pretty good too, but I've chosen to provide you with some possible answers THAT ARE SPECIFIC TO YOUR VEHICLE. If it's a 3.0L Windstar, disregard this answer. Hope this helps.

Replacing intake and exhaust valves?

This is a wild shot but next time it does this stop and take the gas cap off. See if there is a vacuum. The vent might be blocked somehow and you are creating a vacuum in the fuel tank.

fuel pump maybe ?

I'm taking my car to a garage tomorrow..there is oil in the antifreeze . How did that happen??

It sounds like you have a plugged catalytic converter, have some shop put a pressure gage in the exhaust before the converter...losing power while driving is a classic symptom.

Chevy Avalanche Fuel pump?

Sound like the fuel pump is weak and it needs changing.

Can I swap out a quad 4 engine with a 3.1 V-6 engine in a 1995 grand am? will it bolt up, ?

i own a repair shop, and you said you already changed the fuel filter ,but have you checked the fuel pump or the relay to see if its working right, also these can vapor lock ,because of the enclosed systems they now run on them, and this will cause it to shut down,if it does this again try removing the gas cap and see if you hear it release pressure,if it does its ok,if not that maybe the problem with it,they will vapor lock ,but you,ll need to check this only when it does this, other wise it wont do any good, when you said you could turn the key off and restart it,and it would be alright sort of give it away,i think it is a fuel problem, just finding it may be a problem, but try the cap,i had one that wouldn't run with the cap on,but it would with the cap off of it,and it shouldn't have ran good at all ,but it turned out it had a bad canister on it,and that caused it,these are some things you can try, this is one of those things that if its a part you wish it would just go ahead and go out then you could replace it,but until it does go out all your doing is guessing at it,good luck with it i hope this helps.
