otherwise they have at home computers you can hook up to your car, at any Auto parts store has them and that would tell you why it is on.

Auto Zone can not scan your vehicle. 1989 was not equipped with OBD II, which is the system Auto Zone can scan. The computer systems were not to advanced in 89' so more then likely you have an emissions code in the system - possible oxygen sensor not reading correctly.
