the red brake warning lamp warns you of a possible dangerous failure in the base brakes such as low brake fluid level or low pressure in half the hydraulic system. The red brake light also comes on when the parking brake is applied as you already know. The red brake light will also come on when there is an anti-lock brake system failure. First thing I would do is look to see if your brake fluid is low if it is find out why it is low. Your brakes may be worn out or you my have a fluid leak.
