Why & what makes Synthetic engine oil better ?

Question:

A question for the mechanic?

Synthetic engine oil is specially engineered to resist viscosity breakdown and contamination. It can usually prolong the intervals between oil changes. Most synthetic oil made is a blend of regular oil and man-made lubricants that are supposed to reduce the amount of sludge caused by oil breakdown. It can be advantageous in commercial vehicles because it can cut the amount of time the vehicle is out of service for maintenance. If a person uses decent oil and services their car regularly they shouldn't need synthetic oil. The oil manufacturer's claims of prolonging engine life don't necessarily seem unreasonable but they don't tell me everything. There are some advantages to synthetic oil but the cost is usually substantially more. If you have an old engine that leaks I sure wouldn't use more expensive oil. If you use synthetic oil make sure you use it after the warranty is up because some auto makers advise against. They could void an engine warranty real easily if anything happened. Be careful!

Gear box gone ... already?!!?

It's better because it coats the top part of your engine so that after setting all night you don't have dry starts.

How old do you gotta be to get a car put in your name?

I'm no mechanic but because it is such a high grade oil, it leaves less deposits as it travels through your engine...less thickeners...cleaner engine...also it is a bit thinner
