It could be a whole slew of problems. Do you get any warning lights? does it just shut off completely, or does it studder before it dies? when it dies, do you have steering or any power whatsover?
I mean it could be a heat related issue, where your water pump isnt timed right, it could be faulty sensors, it could be faulty fuel injectors. You could have a faulty ignition, you could have bad spark plugs. it could be a simple lose battery cable. Ya got to give us a bit more info.
What kind of car is it, what engine, what year? Have you tried pulling the diagnostic codes (if you car even has diagnostics), do you smell anything, what have you tried doing to fix the problem?

It could be an elecctric sensor failure if its a modern car.
Sensors are used to control fuel mixture etc. Best having a diagnostic check run at your dealer/garage.
