We have a 89 Thunderbird 6 and without warning the engine started idling about double or more without stopping. It just seems stuck. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Look for a vaccum leak to start. If you dont find any, give the IAC valve a tap or two. If the idle drops, there is your problem.My sunroof cover is off its track?
Several things it could be. A good chance it is a vacuum line with a crack or hole in it. Take a can of carb cleaner and spray along each vacuum line and listen for a idle speed change.Another possibility is the base gasket for the carb or throttle body is leaking. It is inexpensive and not very hard to change.
There are several other things it could be but these two things are a good place to start.

Check your throttle cable first...disconnect it from the lever and see if it still does it. If it stops doing it, the cable is at fault, perhaps where it connects to the pedal...I've got a 2000 Dodge Caravan ... in the winter, when cold the car wouldn't go . and .?
