Ducati's are the Harley's of the sport bike world. Most posers are buying them for the name. Granted they aren't as poor performing as the Harley's, but if you want one that will even come close to running with the equivalent Japanese bike you have to buy the high dollar souped up one, at which price you can have a fleet of bikes. I guy I know payed big money to have a service done on his Duc, probably 5x the cost of servicing a Japanese bike. Plus they need adj more often. But who cares you're buying for posing rights.Do i need a tool for my chain?

Don't know, but I basically did nothing to my Hondas (and Suzuki) except adjust the chain, change oil, and maybe adjust valves once in awhile.Not sure what the advantage is to owning a Ducati.

Not really. There is some truth in that they can be a bit more unreliable that a Jap bike but i know people who have had them and didn't have to do anything but basic servicing for the whole time they owned them.I am pulling the engine on a 1976 CB 750 K. Need to replace head gasket. Any tips?

That said, they're still probably twice as expensive to own as my Honda/Suzuki/Yamaha/Kawasaki's... You can mitigate it a bit depending on the model - the true racing models from the 916 on up are high strung little beasties - they'll keep your credit cards hot purchasing valve adjustments, tires, etc. etc.

Yes, I hate the $500 bill every time I get the valves adjusted, but you have to pay to play - it's up to you to decide if Ducati is worth the price of admission.
All bikes are money pits. The difference in Ducati is that the parts are oh so expensive.
