It doesn't really stand for anything. Suzuki chose 'GS' as the name for their 4 cylinder bikes in the late 70s, adding the 'X' to differentiate the 4-valve bikes when they arrived in 1982. The 'R' was added for their groundbreaking sports bike of 1985- presumably it meant 'race'. But the letter combinations used by the Japanese manufacturers are arbitrary and there are no real hard-and-fast rules- they just serve to link 'families' of bikes in the minds of customers. but they will break them whenever it suits.

I agree with llordlloyd except that all Suzuki sport bikes are not GSXRs. The TL1000s of a "few" years ago, the SV models and the Katana line, which is actually GSX (600/750) F. The GSX-R is definitely their brand identifier though.Can it affect your transmision if you put bigger tires on your atv?
