Yamaha virago 535?

Question:
I just bought a 94 Yamaha Virago 535. It has a popping sound from the pipes when it revs up and it will shut off if you don't keep gas to it. Does this mean the carbs need adjusting or it needs a tune up? Thanks

Not only do the carbs need adjusting, but, it sounds as if they may need a cleaning (pilot circuit anyway). A good tune-up would be the place to start.
