Why is my motorcycle smoking?

I have a 99 gsxr 600 and i just put new oil in it...its been sitting since august with no oil. It's smoking pretty bad.

if too much oil, the excess will wind up in the air filter from blow-by. my old bike (a yamaha) would belch a puff or 2 in its day. oil burn is blue smoke. oil is gettin past the valve seals is usually the culprit.
had an old chevette that would belch a big cloud of light blue smoke on start up, and would still have a bit of blue smoke on the fly. the valve seals and/or guides is starting to go south. ur gonna have to tear into the top half of the engine to get to em. get a shop manual if u plan on tackling this.

Can someone plz tell me were the best place to get motorbike insurance is?

if its white smoke then you may have oil leaking into the piston. If it's dark gray or black smoke then it could be a fuel prob... how old is gas in it? let it run for a while ride if air cooled and see if it stops

When you buy a bike new, do you pay sticker price?

What weight oil did you use? The manufactures recommended weight or a lighter weight oil? You know the letters and # as in 5 W30,10W40 20W50 (what cycles usually call for) and the other wts are thinner and will burn off quicker. Hense the smoke

maby too much oil or maby sitting without oil dried out the vaulve guides during storage leave the oil in start it a couple times in the off season also leave it full of fuel just add fuel stable

How would I find out if someone has been in a motorcycle accident in the past 20 years?

i hope u checked the manual for the right weight of oil. i see the weight specified in my manual.
dont even think about using automotive oil in a gsxr. that engine will eat oil that thin.

havin too much oil in it usually winds up in the air filter...at least its done that to me on 2 bikes already. i have to support vf29 on his answer tho. if the valve seals are going bad, they wont prevent oil from leaking into the cylinders, and if enough oil leaks in, u'll get blue smoke from the exhaust, and it can also seriously foul the spark plugs.

Are dirt bikes safe for teenagers ?
