If you are installing a kill switch on a 12 volt system you should be able to use 14 guage without any problem.

Use 12 to 14 gauge multistrand in a sheathing that is meant for outdoor use not the vinyl stuff that goes in conduit. For added durability tin the end of your wires to get a better connection.

I can't believe people are recommending 12 or 14 wire for a simple kill switch. Thats way more than what you need, its also thick and will be more difficult to make your connection if you are soldering anything. Number 18 wire should be plenty, and be easier to route and work with.
