Question:
I've put new reverse cone mufflers on my stock standard 2006 Triumph Bonneville T100 and I've been told that removing the Air Injection system - or plugging it up - will stop the backfiring. True or false or maybe?

in most cases, changing the pipes changes the amount of backpressure. pipes, air breather assembly, and carb/efi is akin to a 3 legged chair; changing 1 leg effects the others.popping on decel indicates too much fuel, not enough air; that means the mix is too rich. check the plugs. if their sooty black, the mix is too rich. u need to add more air. if on the other hand, the plugs are paper white, then its too lean. too much air, not enough fuel.
if there's a leak in the exhaust manifold gasket, it will also cause problems.
btw, straight pipes hurt performance big time. unless the rpm's is over 4500 rpm all the time, straight pipes will do nothing in increased performance. general street riding is under 3500 r's.

Usually this is caused by a faulty or incorrectly setup gasket around the connection of your pipes to the header OR the pipes to the muffler OR both.

whats a good leather cleaner and conditioner for my jacket?
If what you are saying is correct then the person you are listening to is not knowledgeable enough to work on a scooter. Engines operate on a mixture of air and fuel which is required for combustion. Backfire indicates that you have to much fuel in the combustion chamber or not enough air and all of the fuel is not burned and is passed to the exhaust where it is ignited by the hot exhaust. If this problem has come up since you have installed the mufflers you may need to lean or reduce of the amount of gas entering the combustion chamber as the mufflers may be creating more back pressure. What is the best pocketbike on the market...?
The troubleshooting flow chart will zero in on your problem.1st were the pipes installed by a shop? If yes, don't touch anything and take it back. If no, Buy 3 sets of GOOD!! spark plugs- 1 @ normal heat range and 1 higher, 1 lower. Ride to a hiway entrance and install the normal plugs (Double check all gaps 1st) Jump on the freeway and maintain your normal speed and RPM for a few miles and then hit the kill switch and coast to the side and look @ the plugs white tips mean too lean or too hot of plug. fix this problem quickly or you 'll fry the motor. If dark to black it's rich or too cold of plug. Try removing the air filter and run it a few more miles if closer to tan color upgrade the filter\ intake system. If you still have problems its probably above your experience. If your lucky you know a friend that knows limey bikes and for a 12 pk of the good stuff you could be in the wind soon or if all else fails put the old pipes back on. Heres a tip about performance pipes, you will need to do some adjustments. If the pipes bolt right on you're not gonna get any better performance because your not changing anything but the looks. Good Luck, . .

Well, fortunately for you I own a modern Triumph motorcycle, unlike the first three guys who have answered your question.Your replacement mufflers MAY require some jet changes to be completely correct, but yes the removal of the AI system will eliminate the cause of much deaccell popping. Check out www.bellacorse.com or www.newbonneville.com for removal kits. They are about $25 bucks, but, all they really amount to is two 12mm drain plugs and a rubber cork that you can find at any auto and hardware store.
